About This Calculation

The Riegel Endurance Power Law

Peter Riegel established that athletic speed diminishes at a predictable exponential rate as duration increases: = T_1 imes (D_2 / D_1)^{1.06}$. This 1.06 fatigue exponent models the gradual depletion of muscle glycogen and shift toward less efficient lipid oxidation.

Limitations & Context Projections assume the athlete possesses aerobic volume commensurate with the target event distance. Projecting a marathon from a 5K without sufficient weekly long runs will overestimate performance.
