About This Calculation

Session-RPE: The Gold Standard for Internal Load

External load (kilograms lifted, kilometers run) does not reveal how an individual’s autonomic nervous system, endocrine system, and musculature responded to stress. Foster’s sRPE is evaluated ~15–30 minutes post-training by multiplying the session duration by the global Borg CR-10 score. Monotony reflects day-to-day load consistency; high monotony combined with elevated strain strongly correlates with negative overreaching.

Limitations & Context Athletes must be habituated to the Borg CR-10 scale. Assessments must be collected at least 15 minutes after session completion to prevent end-exercise bias.
